This letter has been translated into English.

Dear Jenny,

I have enjoyed working with you these few months, you have been receptive and willing to try new things. More than that, you have given both your honest input and effort. I would like to leave you with some thoughts about your reading and writing.

Jenny, you ARE a good reader. Good readers like to try new things (I know you are not afraid of trying new things), good readers know about things, (you know all kinds of stuff about butterflies). Good readers know how to pick their books (we have been working on that and you are getting really good at it), good readers know how to explain why they pick the books they like (remember when you told me about why you picked the butterfly book and how you knew you would be able to understand it).

Another thing good readers know is that they must always work on their reading.  Some things we know you can work on are:

  • believing that you can do anything, and that you, JENNY, are a GOOD READER
  • find out about all kinds of stuff, yes butterflies, but also ants, lions, electronics, rocks and mysteries!
  • keep using your book pick rules, and don't forget your checklist bookmark (it can help you remember until you don't need it anymore)
  • make sure to ask yourself questions while you are reading and about what you picked to read
  • look for all the ways that reading helps you outside of your classroom and home

Jenny the best thing about being a good reader is that you can have all kinds of fun reading all kinds of books. The other best thing about being a good reader is that you will soon be a GOOD WRITER so keep reading, writing and believing in yourself.

                 Respectfully,

                 Justin O.
