- Responses to Reflections on Framing Literacy 4,
Dear Smita, After reading the chapters I think I am going to change my techniques
of teaching reading a lot. It is definitely going to be a reading/ writing
workshop. I shall encourage my students to write stories from wordless picture
books even though they may not be able to write a whole sentence correctly!
Also we are going to have a word wall with the most interesting words that
my students can find and I will encourage them to say and write those words
in their stories. Reflection is very important and so is using literacy outside
the
classroom. So we need to help students read and write with the purpose that they
may be able to communicate with the rest of the world! What
do you think of this? I just wanted to share with you some of my thoughts. Bye!
See you in class tomorrow. Sue
Sue, It is wonderful that you have made the commitment to change the way
you and your class will approach literacy. Teaching is really like having
your own business. With the shareholders being students, parents, and the
state. Giving learners the time to read and negotiate meaning means that
they will begin to absorb the conventions of grammar, spelling, and storytelling
on their own. Making the direct instruction mini-lessons that much more
productive. Justin
