What is Modified Miscue Analysis?

According to Mallow and Patterson, MMA is a procedure which allows for insight into a learner's cueing systems and methods of meaning making through the dissection of oral reading sessions.

How is MMA accomplished?

Mallow and Patterson suggest taping or marking a text copy of an oral reading session. When at least 25 errors are harvested the session may cease and the analysis begin.

The best explanation of MMA is observing it one's self. To that end, various MMA sessions have been taped and coded with the opportunity to listen, and try it for yourself.

Below are a number of MMA / Reading Assessment sessions. Click on the fictitious name to  see a transcript of the session, you can choose either the original or recorded copy of the transcript. If you have the Real Player you can also listen to the actual session and make your own observations. You could even print the original text, listen, and make your own analysis before you look at the researcher's perceived miscues and subsequent observations.
